This
Web site has taken a varity of forms since it was originally
created in 1994-95 as a one-page list of links for journalism
students at Carleton University in Ottawa. The intent
was to provide quick and easy pointers to reference works
like dictionaries, governments sites, aids to writing
and other general information on the nascent World Wide
Web.
It
grew as the Web grew. The design changed as we moved from
hand coding HTML to using HTML editors like FrontPage
and Dreamweaver. Its primary audience was journalism students
and professional journalists, but now the hope is that
Ready Reference can be useful to anyone. The home base
for the site moved from Ottawa to Alberton,
Prince Edward Island, as I retired from teaching and went
to a quieter part of the country.
