About Us

Dan and Krystyna Pottier are Birchgate Communications, a small Prince Edward Island-based multi-faceted communications business highlighting communications skills acquired over 30 years in the public and private sectors in Ottawa.

Before retiring in 2004, Dan taught journalism at Carleton University in Ottawa for more than two decades. His primary teaching field was print journalism and that expanded to include online journalism when the World Wide Web beckoned. He helped develop an award-winning online magazine at Carleton called Capital News Online.

He began his career as a reporter with the Montreal Star covering politics in Quebec City and Ottawa, and then spent four years as chief of media relations for
the federal Commissioner of Official Languages.

Krystyna spent most of her career in the communications arena of the federal public service doing media relations and providing communications advice and services in a variety of line departments
and agencies. She retired from the position of Manager of Communications for the Canadian Transportation Safety Board.

Together they offer a variety of skills and knowledge related to the media in the broad sense of the word--including Web design, media relations, writing, editing and general communications advice. As a small company, they offer a personal touch and very competitive rates.

The company has become well established in its corner of PEI and is slowly building on its small town roots, acquiring new clients and supporting existing ones.
